Cottage Life

This week's teacup was a housewarming gift from a work friend. The lovely teacup had belonged to her mother which makes me cherish it even more.

Isn't the cottage scene charming?

The Royal Vale backstamp is circa 1962-1964.

I adore Downton Abbey, but I would rather live in a cozy cottage!

If you're in the market for a tea house, the Vintage Garden Tea Room is for sale at a reduced price of $879,900. The original asking price for this "Victorian beauty" was almost $1 million dollars! You can take a virtual tour here.

I visited the Vintage Garden Tea Room once back in 2009. My friend and I both had tea leaf readings done and were happy to hear that we were going to make lots of money...I'm still waiting for that money to come my way!

I'm joining the following parties this week:

  1. Hi Margie,
I have that same teacup and I just love it. I'm just smitten by cottage scenes on teacups! I'd much prefer to live in a little cottage, too.
I hope my comment comes through. You'll have to let me know if it was emailed to you. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

  2. What a thoughtful housewarming gift! I would love to live in a cottage too with a small area of land for a flower and vegetable garden along with some animals. Thanks for sharing!

  3. Margie, I would much more prefer a cozy cottage over a castle too. My son who has done a lot of travelling tells me castles are dark and cold for the most part. I love your sweet teacup. I simply adore cottage scenes on china and find them totally charming. Thanks for sharing and joining me for tea. Happy March!

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  8. I love your cottage teacup and saucer. You will always enjoy that one! As you the tea room. No amount of Afternoon Tea's will pay for that! It could take a lifetime. So sad!

  9. Hi Margie! I really like your teacup--cottages are the best! When I was in the UK, my mission was to take pictures of any thatched roof cottages that we passed--and I was surprised how many there were! They are extra cute. I really enjoyed the tour of the tea room too--how cool that it has an apartment too! A live/work experience indeed. I'd love to see pictures of Grey House in "real life"!

  13. What a lovely gift. What a thoughtful friend. Doesn't running a tea shop in a lovely Victorian 'cottage' sound like a lovely day dream?

  14. Oh what a sweet and thoughtful gift. The tea cup is beautiful. It would be lovely to own a Tea House but I am sure it is lots of work too.

  15. I just bought that cottage teacup and saucer last weekend, so was glad to get the backstamp info.
Last time I gave a tea party, my guests said I should open a tearoom. But I agree with the others-- it's too much work and it would take all the fun out of having tea parties (for me anyway)!

  19. The tea cup set is lovely and precious. I've been thinking lately that what our town/city lacks is a tea rooms. Everything seems to be geared to coffee drinkers just now and we tea drinkers just have to make do. A good old fashioned tearooms would be great.
