Victoria Day Long Weekend

Happy Victoria Day to my fellow Canucks!

Sandi from Rose Chintz Cottage provided a nice summary of why Canada celebrates Victoria Day here.

2010 Mother's Day Tea with Queen Victoria
Back in 2010, we attended a Mother's Day Tea at the Ireland House in Burlington, Ontario.
Queen Victoria (right) graced us with her presence.

I took last Friday off from work so I enjoyed a super long weekend!
I treated myself to a delicious brunch of  Eggs Benedict and raspberry tea at Jax Sweet Shoppe.

In the afternoon, I dropped by the Hazel Tea & Dessert House, a newly opened internet cafe specializing in bubble tea.

I tried one of the signature milk teas (iced): Hazel's Brown Sugar Milk Green.
The creamy green tea was sweetened with brown sugar, but I could still detect a slight bitterness from the green tea's tannins. I used to like tapioca beads when I was younger, but now I prefer my bubble tea minus the bubbles!

My sweet tooth very much enjoyed Hazel's signature milk waffle.
My yummy "Very Matcha" waffle was served with green matcha ice cream, red bean paste, and cheesecake bits (unlike the traditional cheesecake, the Japanese-style cheesecake is light and fluffy).

I'll definitely go back to Hazel Tea and Dessert House to try the other milk teas and enjoy the "Very Matcha" waffle again!

  1. Happy Victoria Day, Margie! Yum! That is one decadent looking waffle! Your breakfast at Ireland House looks delicious too. Where have I been? I have never heard of bubble tea before. Sounds interesting. Thanks for the link to my post about Victoria Day. That's very sweet of you. Hope you've had a lovely long weekend, my friend. Now we all have the summer to look forward to. Yay!

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  2. Happy Victoria Day, Margie! How nice for you to have a long weekend to enjoy. The eggs Benedict look so tasty, but it's the waffle that really caught my attention, with my sweet tooth. I have never had bubble tea, but would like to try it. I had brunch with my youngest son and DIL at the Dallas arboretum, and we shared eggs Benedict, that had brisket, salad nicoise, and creme brûlée French toast (it was so decadent!!). It was such a fun day to enjoy the beauty of the arboretum, and to be with some of my sweet family.

  3. Hope you enjoyed your extra long weekend. Now we are retired, every weekend is a long weekend. Eggs benedict is my favourite breakfast to have when out. Hope this lovely weather continues.

  6. You had a day of culinary delights! Everything looks yummy. Except the bubble tea. For some reason, I didn't even want the free sample they were giving out in the mall. Didn't appeal to me. If it's tapioca that's why. My mom always called them fish eyes, haha, so I could never bring myself to eat it. But I'd take the waffle and eggs Benedict any day! Glad you were able to enjoy a long weekend. Have a good week Margie.

  7. Looks like a culinary weekend of sweets for you Margie! The best I had was a waffle cone frappacino at Starbucks and even had the whipped cream this time. So much gardening, I'm sure to burn it off!
    Your eggs benny looks delicious.
We had great weather, didn't we?

  8. Happy Victoria Day! Glad you extended your holiday weekend and treated yourself to some treats. Isn't brunch a special meal? Your other breakfast looked wonderful too. The waffle is so visually appealing. There are so so many bubble tea places around here and I still haven't tried one. I see the menus and the flavors look really interesting. Not sure I would like the bubble beads either.
