Five on February

Since my post are scheduled on Mondays, I never participated in the (now defunct) Five on Friday linky parties. Brenda and Lorrie's recent posts inspired me to use this format to summarize the February happenings around here.

1. I finally went to Terra's Winter Market. I was too busy gawking at the plethora of baked goods, produce, specialty food items, and crafts to photograph the booths. But I did snap a photo of this pretty display of orchids.

2. I enjoyed a belated birthday luncheon at a Korean restaurant (YUM!). My friends gifted me this beautiful card and fun teapot puzzles. I will be sharing the third part of their gift on this blog soon...

3. I finally visited Mizener's Antiques and More Market which had 5 (!) different buildings filled with antiques, kitsch, etc. I didn't take any photos but you can see examples of what the vendors are selling here. My mom was my shopping buddy and bought this adorable Bavarian tea set for me as a Valentine's Day gift.

4. Another win for February: this charming Nice Cuppa Calendar photo calendar was my prize from Sylvia's SMD Paper Arts Blog Giveaway. Visit Sylvia's blog to check out her other photo calendars. Thank you, Sylvia!

5. I'm not much of a gardener so I don't know why I made an impulsive visit to the local garden  centre. But I'm glad that I did because I found these super cute teacup planters. I took advantage of the store's 20% off promotion and purchased a purple planter (the lighting makes it look blue in the photo). Any suggestions on what to plant?

February, I hardly knew you!

I'm joining the following parties this week:

  1. I'm not a gardner either but I think purple or pink violets would be sweet snuggled in your planter cup. I gifted a friend with a large blue and white transferware teacup and saucer for her birthday one year and she planted purple violets in it. It looked beautiful! Your Bavarian tea set is so pretty and won't you have fun using that for Valentine's Day/February? You were blessed with many wonderful gifts for your birthday. Thank you for sharing them all with us. Looking forward to March!

  2. This is a fun format, isn't it? The orchid display is eye-catching with the matching purple holders. Judith would love it! Glad you had a good time for your birthday. I second Sandi's comment about planting some African violets in the teacup planter. They are easy to care for, too. Or else a pot of trailing ivy.

  5. I love the Valentine teaset that your mom gave you, Margie! A friend planted a daffodil in a teacup for a birthday gift, and it looks sweet. I'm sure you'll find something pretty for your purple cup. Maybe even a fairy would be cute, along with a plant or a succulent.

  10. Margie, I think yellow flowers would look great in your new purple planter. Sounds like a good shopping trip. I don't like shopping, but I always had fun shopping with my mother.

  14. Such a lovely way to spend some time! Love the tea cup planter idea. Today I just planted some violets into some teacups I found at a freestore. Fun way to add delights to you home or for gifts!

  15. That Valentine's set is so cute!!! Hmmm...a small purple planter. I would say lavender, but they can be a bit finicky in smaller planters. If you like herbs, mint has always been very forgiving for me. I've put it in all sorts of containers and it does well! Last year I grew a chocolate mint and dried it and mixed my own tea blend ;).
