British Invasion

During the Victoria Day long weekend, I went with some friends to the Totally British Festival at the Hamilton Convention Centre. The festival featured British entertainment (e.g., Robin Hood pantomine), music (e.g., Celtic music, tribute bands), food (e.g., meat pies) and other goods from the UK. I didn't take much photographs, but I did capture a couple of tea-themed booths on my camera.

I was immediately drawn to King's Cross' booth of pretty teawares, but I resisted the temptation to purchase anything!

I did buy some English scones to take home with me.

The ready-to-serve food was limited to meat pies (how could you not serve scones at a gathering of Anglophiles?!?) so after the festival, we went to our favourite British tearoom, Taylor's Tea Room, for lunch.

The tea cozies at Taylor's are so sweet!

I enjoyed the Buckingham Palace Garden Party Tea--a blend of Earl Grey and Jasmine--in this Delphine teacup featuring grapes.

One of my companions sipped English Breakfast tea from this dainty Paragon teacup called "Peace Rose".

I strategically only ate half of the sandwich that I ordered (not pictured) to ensure that I'd have room for the yummy scone with Devonshire cream and jam!

Our office tea social in late May was also British-themed!

I brought the vintage Tetley mugs (Churchill/Made in England), the white teapot (from the "Word Range" collection by British ceramic designer, Keith Brymer Jones), and teabags (English Breakfast, Earl Grey and Downton Abbey's English Rose). My colleagues brought English-related goodies such as: scones, clotted cream, and Cadbury chocolate.

Cheerio!

I'm joining the following parties this week:

  1. The British convention sounds like a fun event. You have so many wonderful tearooms or tea related stores/events near where you live. I like the "tea" teapot in the first booth. Glad you were able to get your scone at the tea room. That's one big scone! How nice that the tearoom uses such high quality bone china teacups. I'm always envious of your office tea socials. Have a great tea week, Nora

  2. Oh my goodness, what fun! I would have snatched up that teapot with the Union Jack B for Britain on it quick as a wink to bring home with me! The array of goodies look wonderful too. I would love to try a cup of Downton Abbey English Rose tea. It sounds lovely. You do have yourself some fun tea outings, Margie. Thanks for sharing and joining me for tea. Happy June!

    Blessings,
    Sandi

  10. I have never heard of that event???? Was there someone there from Coronation Street; there always is in the one in Toronto. That was one huge scone, but it does look yummy. I am making scones for my book club meeting next week. Along with a pot of tea!!

  13. Oh course you'd have to supplement the lack of scones by stopping at a tearoom (your day sounds like loads of fun by the way)! That scone looks HUGE! Especially if you know what is waiting for you at your favorite tearoom :).

P.S. Thanks for sticking with my France posts! So you noticed all the ice cream. :) Our running "joke" was whether we would get to our "third dessert" of the day or not (which was really not a joke because we would).

  21. I really enjoyed seeing this as there is a new tea room shop near my business. I think Americans have put more of a romantic spin on the tea time. We had another British tea room downtown that was stark and plain and it didn't make it. The items in the booths you show were sure fun.
